Props Inspiration: Drawers

When my little girl was about 4 months old, I brought her back to visit my hometown. It was in a much less developed city and I was very much in love with the rawness of the scenery surrounding me. Empty fields with bushes of wild flowers and grasses. Needless to say, I had to bring out my camera and do a portrait session at one of these amazing fields!
Naturally, my little girl became my ever willing little model, however I was at a loss on how to pose her since she’s yet able to sit up on her own. I needed to put her in something which can both “sit” her up and at the same time looks presentable for the portrait session. Since all my usual props were back at home, I decided to think out of the box and came up with the idea of using one of the drawers that can be easily found in the house we were staying at during that trip. 😀 With a little help of a small pillow and soft-thick blanket, we managed to prop her up in a little wooden drawer and capture some really cute moments that day.
Since then, I’ve been incorporating this idea into my clients sessions. I encourage my clients to bring a nice and unique drawer from a piece of furniture from their home for their baby sessions with me. The more antique & sentimental value the furniture provides the better! Here are some of the past sessions I’ve done with various type of drawers unique to each of my clients’. 🙂

I hope you enjoy this post & find it inspirational. Prop opportunities are endless. You just need to look around and you may be surprised at what you may find which will be absolutely perfect for your next portrait session! 😉
