16 Nov Meet the Photographer: Jo Guihot of JG Images
Favorite Movie: There are so many! I love “Life as a House” and for something a bit silly from my youth, “Empire Records“. Still. Oh, and I love “Love Actually” – I get excited when it starts coming on around Christmas time.
Favorite Book: As the Crow Flies by Jeffrey Archer. I also love most of Stephen King’s books too. I don’t know why, because I’m such a chicken sometimes, but I love a good scary book.
Favorite Lens: Currently my 85mm 1.4. I love prime lenses in general, and this one is my favorite for portraits.
Favorite Magazine: I love Frankie, and Australian Photography. I also love Country Style, which features a lot of beautiful photography from around Australia, great recipes and styling. It’s based on rural living.
Favorite Website or Blog: I love “Organising the Four of Us” and I read “Fat Mum Slim” a lot. She commentates on life as a mum and business owner with comedy.
Favorite Music: I’m a die-hard Silverchair fan. Even though they aren’t together anymore, I still get a kick out of hearing their music on the radio. I do like a bit of everything, but currently my favorite is an Australian artist called Sarah Blasko. I’ve been listening to her music a lot lately.
Favorite Store: We have a gorgeous boutique home wares store in my town called Gorgeousness Home. I love the unique home wares in there. You can always find the perfect last minute gift for someone (or for yourself!).
Favorite Local Spot: Bathurst is a small country town in New South Wales, Australia. One of my favorite local spots is the park in the center of town called Machattie Park. It’s beautiful and cool in summer, beautifully green in spring, gorgeous in autumn — with huge colorful leaves — and has majestic trees even in winter. It’s great for photos, family picnics and walks. A true gem in the middle of our town.
Photographer Idol: I love Sally Mann’s work because she pushed the boundaries, so I find it really interesting. I admire her because she has created whatever she wants, no matter what anyone says.
Favorite Instagram Accounts: I love following Heidi Swapp, I think she’s an inspirational lady and I love her crafty contributions, and her quest to talk about mental health and to enjoy life. I also follow lots of Project Life pages, because I love memory keeping, and do Project Life each year.
Favorite Pinners on Pinterest: One Handed Cooks for inspirational meals (especially for toddlers!). I also love Just a Girl and Her Blog and A Bowl Full of Lemons for fun home wares, organization and décor.
Favorite Quotation: “What you need depends on what you can’t live without.”
Most Interesting Place I’ve Traveled: I really loved Siena, in Italy. Surrounded by a more modern Italy, it still had quite a bit of old world charm, and I loved Heidelberg, in Germany, for the same reason.
Favorite Family Vacation Spot: We love the Australian beaches for family holidays, but try to go to a new spot each year.
Guilty Pleasure: Staying up late and watching a TV series with my husband (and some popcorn)!
If money were no object, my occupation would be: I’d use both my qualifications to open a photography school. (I’m also a qualified teacher.)
What Makes Me Memorable: I have a loud laugh. I’m recognizable by that and my voice. I’m friendly and fun, and I talk a lot – so I always have great chats with people I meet.
A Favorite Personal Photograph: I took this photo when I was traveling Europe years ago; it was before I met my husband, and I was traveling solo. I had a semi-manual camera then, and this image was taken up at the top of the castle in Heidelberg, Germany. I walked up 315 (I think) steep steps to get to the top. Well worth it.
A Favorite Photograph from Your Business: This is my favorite image lately. While I am a family photographer, I truly LOVE photographing couples. I think it’s because I love the idea of love so much. I love to meet two people who are truly meant for each other. This image was taken towards the end of the session when the couple had just spent two weeks together, but otherwise do long distance between the USA and Australia. They are the most beautiful people and I felt this image really conveyed their love for each other.
Family Image Credit: We had family photos taken earlier this year by Tracy Beveridge Photography. This was taken while we were on summer holiday.
