Reserve Your Seat for the Very First NAPCP Getaway!

Hosted by NAPCP Ambassador, Julie Hamlin

Shootouts, amazing locations, rest, connection, quality time together – we can’t wait  to finalize all of the amazing details surrounding the first ever NAPCP Getaway! NAPCP Ambassador, Julie Hamlin of Sacred Sage Photography is planning an amazing opportunity for NAPCP Members in New Mexico.
Like our Ambassador-hosted Gatherings, this Getaway is meant to inspire, rejuvenate, and foster connection among our community. Day one of this getaway will feature a unique shootout experience in White Sands National Park. Day two will take place in Santa Fe where we will explore its rich landscape, food and culture. What makes this experience unique is that it will truly be about what *you* want to take away from our time together. Limited agenda and itinerary, lots of down time to relax, rejuvenate, create art, find inspiration in our surroundings, talk shop with fellow NAPCP members, and most importantly – connect.

5 Reasons You Won’t Want to Miss This:

The location! There is no destination more beautiful (and photo worthy) than White Sands National Park and Santa Fe.

The camaraderie amongst photographers like YOU. This opportunity is ONLY for all NAPCP members! If you haven't joined our organization yet, now is the perfect time to jump aboard.

The low investment to participate. Julie has come up with a plan to make this an unforgettable experience with minimal investment. Trust us, you don’t want to miss this.

The time of year. Intentionally planned during our slower season, this is our chance to rest, rejuvenate and be re-inspired. Give yourself the GIFT of time to reconnect with why you fell in love with photography in the first place!

The opportunity to make this YOUR retreat. Unlike past napcp retreats, this getaway will not have any scheduled speakers and very little programming. This means you make it what you want it to be!

SHUTTLES AND TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

We will plan to depart Albuquerque on a 15 passenger “Luxe Bus” (with our luggage after checking out of Hotel Chaco) at approximately 10:00 am on February 26th. We will be transported to southern New Mexico where White Sand National Park is located. We can estimate this drive taking 3.5 to 4 hours, arriving in White Sands by tentatively 2pm. The bus will transport us again that evening from White Sands to Santa Fe, which we can anticipate this drive taking 5 hours.

WHAT TO PACK

New Mexico in late February can fluctuate a great deal from week to week. We strongly advise checking the weather the week before, and again the day before flying out. White Sands is located in southern NM, with an average temperature of 66 degrees at this time of year (a low of 39 degrees). When we leave White Sands, it will get cold, so I strongly recommend layers. Santa Fe is located in the mountains of northern NM with an average temperature of 50 degrees (a low of 25 degrees). It is still winter, and we can expect anything from sunshine to snow that time of year. Feel free to dress up for dinners, and during our time in Santa Fe (think Southwestern Chic with dresses, or jeans/boots. Outdoorsy mountain attire is also common in Santa Fe. For White Sands, be comfy. Think endless beaches with incredibly fine sand, but potentially chilly. Yoga pants, jeans, tshirts, a sweatshirt, hat and sunglasses are my go-to. Shoes like crocs that are easy to walk in and can be cleaned easily from the sand are a good shoe idea, but any simple slip-on could work for the sand. *Please keep in mind that we will be traveling with our luggage, so I encourage packing as light as possible.

PROGRAMMING AND SCHEDULE

PROGRAMMING INFORMATION

Unlike past NAPCP Retreats, these Ambassador-Hosted Getaways are designed to serve as an informal gathering of NAPCP members for connection as our primary purpose. The idea is to meet in a fun and unique destination, talk shop, take out our cameras for the joy of shooting, and remind ourselves why being in business as photographers is the greatest gift in the world!

With that said, there will be an arranged family styled shoot in White Sands on Monday evening where Julie will walk us through photographing a family in this destination. We will be able to break into groups and divide the family into a couples shoot, children’s portraiture, as well as photographing them as a family.

However there are no set speakers or formal itinerary. Just lots of opportunity for adventuring together, for fostering deep connections with one another, and for fun!

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

For those that love to live on the edge, but not totally on the edge… this is what we have planned:

You will need to get transportation from the Albuquerque Sunport to Hotel Chaco upon your arrival (Expect a 15-20 minute drive depending on traffic). Once checked into your hotel, you can explore the local surrounding areas of Old Town Albuquerque with many options for local shopping and eating. The evening of Sunday 2/25, we will have a reservation made for a welcome style dinner at Level 5 Restaurant (around 6pm) which sits at the rooftop level of Hotel Chaco with stunning views of the city and the Sandia Mountains. Everyone will be responsible for their own meals and drinks that evening.

The next morning there are many options for breakfast at either Sawmill – an incredible artisan food hall located across the street from the hotel New Mexico’s First Food Hall, or in the Old Town area within walking distance. Once we depart Albuquerque, we will head to White Sands National Park. We will have boxed lunches, snacks, and water available for the drive down (*bring your own water bottle though to fill up when possible). There are a few rest stops along the way, but any stopping we might do will likely be roadside, so hopefully we can make it down without needing to stop. Once we arrive at White Sands, there is a Visitor Center/ gift shop where we can use the restroom, rent sleds, and stretch our legs. The drive into the park will take about 15 minutes from there.

We will have a few hours to play, enjoy this unique landscape, and meet our beautiful family for the styled shoot before sunset. About 90% of the time, you can expect some breeze/wind to exist in White Sands. I recommend sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, layers, and shoes that are easy to walk in the sand with (socks are great too, or barefoot if the temps are warm enough).

Once the sun has set, we will depart White Sands (about a 15 minute drive out of the park) and plan to eat dinner at Lescombes Winery and Bistro in Alamogordo, NM where White Sands is located. From there, we will begin the drive to Santa Fe, expecting it to take 5 hours to arrive. This will be a late night, arriving in Santa Fe at the Inn and Spa at Loretto at approximately midnight.

Tuesday morning the 27th, we will wake up on the Historic Santa Fe Plaza, surrounded by art, culture, shopping, and amazing restaurants. For the next one to two days, we will relax, connect, and explore the endless options that this historic city offers.
